Christine Winmar is from the South West of Western Australia, her skin name is Allawah, an Aboriginal word meaning “Stay here”.
She has been painting for many years and learnt from her father who was himself a renowned artist and didgeridoo craftsman, he taught many aspect and techniques that is reflected in her work today.
Christine also spent a few years in the Kimberley whereby she developed some style and techniques used in this region. Christine uses media such as canvas, pottery, wood and glass.
In 1987 she began to sell works through Creative Native Art Gallery in Perth.
In 1989 she held her first exhibition along with Mingie Barnes, Geoff Lindsey and Tjinanginy in Perth.
During 1990 Christine had the opportunity to exhibit her works with a number of artist in the “Colour of Australia” exhibition held in Perth later that year she traveled to San Francisco
